Blue Grotto is an oil painting in my abstract series based on the observation of nature. As an ardent observer of nature, I am constantly amazed at the colors seen in the most unexpected places. The series of abstract art stems from these observations but is an abstract expression of realism. It is very organic to me to use the colors left over from my painting pallete. Most of my abstracts are my imagination of something I have seen in real life with a bit of drama attached to it. I hope you will find your own inspiration from the expression of my art! Blue Grotto just happened! Here I see water falls over several rocks in a cave almost receding to the depths of darkness. I hope you can find your own interpretation of the painting and just enjoy it for what it depicts. A touch of red is some of the iron oxide showing through!

It is very important to me to reduce waste as much as possible and become environmentally friendly in the process.  A feat really shown by my dad who had come to visit us in the US and saw the colossal waste of things every day.  Instead of telling me there was so much waste he showed me the waste accumulated by a household of four when I visited him on my annual trip to Kochi, India.  The waste was just a tiny pile that could be burnt and reduced to ashes.  This was quite impressive and left a huge impact on my mind.  That simple lesson made me a firm believer that all of us could participate in reducing the amount of waste we accumulate and discard without reflecting on where it ends up.  Oil paints are no less.  The can be toxic and really are not something that need to find their ways to our water systems or worse remain in the soil for generations.  Therefore, after every painting, I ensure that the remaining paints from my palette find their way to a brand new canvas and develop over a period into a beautiful painting.  Try this technique.  You will be amazed at what your wasted paint may result in.  This technique I dare say will save our environment for future generations and knowing that you consciously did this will make you feel good about the little things you are doing now for the health of our planet.

Please note that the sale of this original art will generate funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) to help raise money for cancer research.  I was introduced to the work of LLS in 2017.  This organization that has climbed up 30 points in one year on the Forbes charity navigator.  It is run by highly competent scientists and physicians who I have personally met.  They believe they can cure cancer within our lifetime, and I agree.  Study and look at the progress they have made since their inception nearly 70 years ago! The cure rate of blood cancers in 1960, the year I was born, was 3%.  Today it is 94%. 

The research continues to happen at a feverish pace all over the world to bridge that gap.  I raise money for Aparna who sadly lost her fight to cancer.  We are losing many more as we speak whose lives have been cut short by these dreadful diseases.  Just within the last week we have lost two of the greats, Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor, to this deadly disease.  Every life is precious.  It is our responsibility to help fund the fight and propel discoveries.  We are the product of such discoveries.  We enjoy a longer life expectancy because of the discoveries of people who came before us.  I am a product of scholarships that were provided to me when I was a young, bright-eyed, enthusiastic PhD student who put in nearly 15 hours a day toward research.  So I ask you unabashedly, on behalf of these scholars who toil, to help find those discoveries that will finally beat cancer.
