Perfect Shot IX

The Perfect Shot series was done to bring attention to the types of bullet damage that can be done with the use of different weapons.  The spread of the bullet as they strike the canvas board is distinct for each weapon as is evident from the marks they make.  Rather than taking a stand for or against the use of firearms in the USA, my paintings bring attention to the fact of what types of damage can happen to the recipient at the other end of the bullet.  The paintings are meant to educate, rather than glorify/demonize the use of firearms.  They are advocating for tighter gun control so the weapons do not fall in the hands of people who are not responsible gun owners.

Gun violence is a leading cause of premature death in the U.S. Guns kill more than 38,000 people and cause nearly 85,000 injuries each year according to the American Public Health Association.  According to the American Public Health Association, gun violence is a public health crisis. The financial impact of gun violence is 44 billion dollars and growing.  These deaths and injuries are preventable.  (https://www.apha.org/topics-and-issues/gun-violence).  School and public place shootings have become the norm and we have become numb to the ill effects of gun violence.  Common sense legislation needs to be passed so we can reverse the trend in our beloved and industrialized nation.

My paintings are only suggesting that we take common sense measures to effect responsible gun ownership.  Everyone must raise their voices so our children and all of us can live in safety while still enjoying our first amendment rights.  

To my knowledge these are the first of its kind.  

This series if done in alcohol inks and each fire arms bullet effects are recorded.  It is a continuum and I will continue to bring attention to this subject through my paintings.
